Mirror, Mirror
Darkness is filled with secrets.
This film is an exercise to experiment with different mediums and styles and stretch the idea of what a film could be. This film is the first real film and animation I have created. The concept that I drew from was the guest bedroom in my house, which is often referred to as “Grandma’s Bedroom” as my grandma used to stay in it when she visited. Ever since I can remember, the guest bedroom has haunted me. The darkness of the hall leading up to it coupled with the door always brings shivers down my spine. But the fear of ghosts was not the only thing bothering me. My family has a history of psychic abilities and ways of communicating with the dead that have been passed down through the generations. My Aunt and Grandma both had this ability and when I was born, my Aunt claimed I had this gift as well. Both my Aunt and Grandma passed in the last two years, and I never got the chance to ask my aunt what she meant by this. As I got older, I viewed the guest bedroom as a portal or connection to the other side.
This film plays off of this idea where I conquer my fears and walk into the room in the dark, finding a creepy mirror. After falling into the mirror into a new dimension, I explore different unexplainable phenomena, which is my visualization of this different dimension. Overall, this film is a reaction to the deaths of my family members and also a way of continuing my experimentation with different art mediums as my Grandma, who was an artist, would want.
